I just purchased a 2001 Sportsman 500 HO RSE automatic. It ran great when I purchased it and now when its the machine is cold or cool it just shifts hard and grinds into gear at times. As the machine heats up, when in gear the machine creeps at idle in whatever gear (R or L,H) runs rough and then lunges and kills, but goes if you put the gas to it.. If you wrestle it after it kills, I turn the key off and back on it will slide into N and starts right up. But once started putting it in gear is a challenge as it is hard to shift into the gear (R,H,or L) without grinding at times or grabbing the gear you select. I have found when the machine kills, I can put it in neutral easier and it starts right back up and idles perfect. What causes the creeping, rough idling and lunging? The machine goes but there is a metals on metal sound in the front at times when it goes into the forward gears. it has about 2500 miles on it and it runs great. Can someone help me understand what I may need to do????
